Deep Mist AI / Cost breakdown
AI Video Ads vs an agency on cost
This page compares the cost of hiring a creative or video agency for a short-form ad against commissioning AI video ads from us. We sell the AI side, and we are saying that up front. What follows is the honest version, including where an agency is the better buy and we lose.
The short answer
If you need an original creative idea built by people who study your market, real filmed footage of your product, and a named team accountable across a whole campaign, hire the agency. If you need several hooks and variations to test cheaply on paid social, and your product can carry a synthetic presenter, AI production is the better buy. Most brands need each route at different times.
Line by line
The line-by-line below sets our published pack price against a range drawn from publicly posted production rate data. Your own agency quotes will sit somewhere in that range, higher or lower depending on scope, market, and the team you hire.
Published 2026 guides put a professionally produced short social video at $500–$5,000 each, tiered roughly $500–$1,000 basic, $1,000–$3,000 standard, $3,000–$5,000 premium. A full-service brand agency is quoted $1,000–$16,000 per finished video, averaging about $3,185 for a 60-second ad.
$95 for a single ad. Inside a pack it falls to $88.33 per ad (3-pack) or $74.50 per ad (10-pack).
Sometimes itemised, more often folded into the project fee — which is part of why the tiers above are so wide. Either way it is not padding. It is most of what an agency is actually selling you.
We do not sell this, at any price. You bring the product photos and, if you want, an angle from our free hook library. The idea stays yours to have.
Studio hire is put at $500–$2,000 a day basic and $2,000–$5,000+ premium; talent at $250–$500 a day amateur and $1,000–$3,000+ professional. Crew, kit and a producer sit on top of that.
There is no shoot. Nothing is rented, nobody is booked, and no day is lost to weather, traffic or a no-show.
A camera in a room with the actual thing, lit by someone who does this for a living. Where the product itself is the proof, this is the entire purchase.
We cannot do this at all. We generate from photographs and never film anything. If the ad has to show your real product in real hands, hire the agency.
Guides put included rounds at 1–2 on a basic tier, 2–3 on a standard one and 3+ where stakeholders are involved. A genuinely new direction is a change order, not a revision.
1 round to 3 rounds included depending on the pack. A new direction costs us the same as a small edit, because both are a re-render.
Traditional production is quoted at 3–6 weeks per video. Rush work adds 25–50% to the total. A faster template-based lane exists at 1–5 days — see the note below the table.
48 hours for one ad, 72 hours for three, 5 days for ten. No rush tier, because there is nothing to rush.
Quoted as additional deliverables: square, vertical and horizontal versions +15–25%, platform-specific edits +10–20%, multiple length variations +15–30%.
Included. Aspect variants and alternate hooks are renders off the same pack, not new deliverables.
An original idea, filmed for real, owned by a named team that is accountable for whether it works. That is a different purchase from ours, not a more expensive version of the same one.
A synthetic presenter, disclosed as AI wherever the ad runs. Fast, cheap variants of a script you can test this week. Not a brand platform, and we never present it as one.
Agency-side ranges are from publicly posted 2026 rate guides, checked 5 August 2026: Vidico, Social Media Video Cost 2026 · Sovran, Video Ad Production Cost Benchmarks 2026. They are market ranges, not private invoices — your own quotes will differ. Our figures are the prices published on our own pricing page.
Where this comparison stops flattering us
Not every agency is a full-service one. A performance marketing agency — template-based editing, modular assembly, no custom shoot — is quoted at $100–$500 per video ad in the same public benchmark, turning work around in 1–5 days. That overlaps our own prices. So “AI is cheaper than an agency” is not true across the board: it is true against shoot-based production, and roughly a wash against a performance shop that is already working from your existing assets. If that is the lane you are in, price both and pick on the work, not the invoice.
A worked example: three ads to test
Picture a brand that wants a handful of short vertical ads to test on paid social before committing real budget to a winner. That job prices very differently on each route, because the agency is also selling the thinking behind it, not just the same files at a higher price.
Route A — commission an agency
- Three videos at the standard social tier$3,000–$9,000
- Vertical and square versions, +15–25%+$450–$2,250
- Rush, if the launch date moves, +25–50%+$750–$4,500
- Studio and talent, where quoted separatelyper day, on top
Route B — our Ad Pack
- Ad Pack, three ads, one concept × three hooks$265
- Vertical and square versionsincluded
- Shoot, studio and talentnone exist
- 2 rounds of revisionsincluded
What that gap is actually buying. Route A returns three videos with an idea behind them and a real camera pointed at the real product. Route B returns three synthetic ones built from photographs you already have. If what you are testing is which opening line stops the scroll, both routes answer that, and one costs a fraction. If what you need is an idea you do not have yet, or footage of the thing itself, Route B was never going to be the answer.
When to hire an agency
Original brand strategy
When the problem is positioning, not production, an agency builds an original idea and a point of view on your category. We render your idea, not invent your brand.
The product is proof
Your claim may need a real pour, a real fit, or real water resistance. Filmed footage carries that proof; a synthetic presenter only asks the viewer to trust it.
Cross-channel campaigns
When a launch runs across feed, retail, and broadcast, you want a named partner owning it. Coordinating that many surfaces is real work, and not work we take on.
High-stakes launches
When a misfire can damage the brand, you want a named team accountable and work built to outlast a test cycle. That accountability costs, and it is worth paying for.
When AI production is the better buy
Testing many hooks
When you need to try several hooks before committing spend, AI renders variations off the same pack. A shoot means a fresh setup for every idea you want to test.
Cost per variation
When the math is cost per variation, AI wins outright. Each extra hook is another render, not another shoot day with crew and kit to pay for.
No shoot logistics
When there is no appetite to coordinate crew, locations, and talent, AI removes it entirely. We work from your product photos, so a shoot never sits on the critical path.
Reaching new markets
When you want to run in a language or market where a shoot is impractical, AI reaches it from the same pack, without rebuilding the production per locale.
Disclosure, both ways
Every frame we deliver is AI-generated, and we disclose it wherever the ad runs. You should too. TikTok requires an AI disclosure tag on ads using synthetic faces or voices, and Meta requires a label on paid content showing AI-generated people. Disclosure reads as confidence.
Full disclosure: we sell the AI side of this comparison, and every frame we deliver is AI-generated. We have no client results to quote, because we are new. The agency figures here come from published public rate data, not private quotes. Get your own quotes and judge for yourself.
We have no published reviews and no client results to quote. We are not going to borrow credibility we haven’t earned, so there are no invented case studies, engagement numbers or logos anywhere on this site.
Judge the work instead
We have no client reviews yet, and we will not invent them. Instead we publish a breakdown of each ad we made: the brief, the opening line, how it was built and what to watch for. Judge the craft before you consider buying.
